It’s always been a dream of mine to zipline through the trees, free and fast like a bird but with a greater safety net than skydiving or base jumping. For those of you who have been following my adventures, you know I’ve been progressively facing my fear of heights, taking on bouldering as my go-to activity.

When Ziplines at Pacific Crest reached out to collaborate, I saw it as a sign that the journey must continue. I was admittedly a little nervous, and the impending 300 feet between me and the trees at 55 miles per hour didn’t help. Knowing myself, though, I was fairly confident that as soon as I took off  into the sea of Jeffry pine and ponderosa my heart would be at ease. It did not disappoint.

At an elevation of over 7,000 feet, the zipline courses range in speed and lengths with the longest a staggering 1,500 feet long. The training lessons and courses were streamlined and thorough leaving me confident to take on the real deal, though there isn’t really anything that can fully prepare you for the initial rush of your first true zip.

I felt like I entered light speed – my cheeks tucked into my face like a deflated balloon while tears dripped into my screaming mouth. It was amazing. I quickly learned that transforming your body into a human cannonball makes you go even faster. There is even one racing course, which my hubby Dan beat me at by a hair (that’s what I say anyway).

The guides and staff are knowledgeable, professional and fun, making the experience all the more enjoyable. I also love that it’s so conveniently close to Los Angeles – a perfect day escape into nature! Wrightwood, the tiny, charming town it’s located in, is a great spot to grab lunch or a refreshing beer after an invigorating day on the ropes. If you’re looking to extend your adventure, there are lovely camping spots located along CA-2 through the Angeles National Forest.
